HIV/AIDS Professional Education in KY....Making It Count - Online Module - 1021131

Course Description:
This  module discusses many facets of HIV/AIDS:  medical aspects, epidemiology, transmission, prevention, treatment, OSHA recommendations, attitudes and behaviors, services available, reporting requirements, and other legal issues.  The course has been approved by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS #0415-1566-M) to meet the requirements of all professionals impacted by KRS 214.610/615 (Acupuncturists, Athletic Trainers, Chiropractors, Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Assistants, Emergency Medical Technicians, Nurses, Optometrists, Paramedics, Pharmacists, Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, Physicians, Physician Assistants,  Podiatrists, Radiologists, and Social Workers).  A post-test is included to access the certificate of completion required by licensure boards.

Estimated Time to complete:  
This course takes approximately 3 hours to complete.

Course Objectives:
At the end of this course, each participant will be able to:

1. Summarize medical and epidemiological information about HIV and the diseases and conditions it can cause.
2. Understand and describe methods of transmission and prevention of HIV and current recognized methods of medical treatment.
3. Define management of HIV in the healthcare workplace and other working environments, consistent with OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standards.
4. Understand and apply appropriate attitudes & behaviors toward those infected with HIV. 
5. Identify comprehensive human services available to assist those with HIV infection.
6. Understand HIV and AIDS Reporting Requirements and identify legal issues surrounding HIV infection.

This educational program has been developed in cooperation between the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and a Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) Approved Provider for Continuing Education. KBN approval of an individual nursing continuing education provider does not constitute endorsement of program content. The KBN recognizes this course to meet the mandatory HIV/AIDS CE requirement to be earned each ten (10) year period for license renewal. The LPN earning period is from 11/1/2001 - 10/31/2011; RN earning period from 11/1/2002 - 10/31/2012.
 

Method of Participation: 
Participants will view a PowerPoint module and will be asked to complete an online post-test to verify participation and to measure outcomes.

Participants must score 70% in order to receive a CME Certificate.
